Sarah Dees has not received any gifts yet
I am an accomplished artist and entrepreneur with over twenty-five years of professional experience. My art reflects beauty and happiness, which enhances the quality of life.
I earned a full academic scholarship to Eckerd College beginning at age 16. After two years, I transferred to the highly regarded illustration program at Parsons School of Design in New York City, continuing on scholarship. I earned my B.F.A. degree in 1982.
I began my volunteer work in leadership roles at Eckerd, as a Student Senator, an English tutor, and Director of the Student Activities Board. Throughout my career, I have contributed volunteer work to benefit children, the environment, the arts and health-related causes.
I founded my first business, a wholesale art manufacturing company, Dees Design Graphics, with my sister, Suzanna Dees, in 1983. My paintings and prints have been published nationally. I built a successful business in fine art and picture framing, specializing in working with interior designers on new buildings, renovations and in the hospitality field. Completed projects include framed art and murals for hotels, timeshare resorts, galleries, retail stores, condominiums, health care, model homes, restaurants, corporate offices and residential commissions.
After a decade, I continued the business as a sole proprietor. I was successful in completing commissions on time and on budget. My crew installed framed originals and poster art, custom designed for resort hotels and homes.
Dees Design Graphics was successful for twenty years. Unfortunately, a truck hit my van from the rear on the interstate in January of 2002. At the end of that year, I closed the business, due to the injury I sustained in that auto wreck.
During the time I recovered, I enjoyed teaching, first volunteering, then joining the staff at Wellington School. I taught performing arts to children in grades 1-8, and worked with students on special visual arts projects. My work included dance choreography, musical play writing, song writing, directing, teaching music, set and prop design and making costumes for school productions.
I taught at Great Explorations; The Children's Museum, and also taught home-school students. At present, I teach adult acrylic painting classes sponsored by Grumbacher Paint at a Michaels Arts and Crafts store.
I have an affirmative and enthusiastic attitude, and a natural rapport with children, based on respect and positive reinforcement.
In January 2006, I began a new home-based business, named Sarah Dees Art.
At present, I work at Image Creations of Florida (ICF), a St. Petersburg art gallery, art production and custom picture framing business.
I provide professional art services, including custom original paintings on canvas and paper. I paint mural art on commission and create original prints on my etching press. I design and produce picture framing, custom designed to perfectly complement the art and its location, based on many years of experience in working with interior designers. I specialize in hospitality and commercial projects.
I continue to work on volunteer projects that benefit the community, including Relay for Life (American Cancer Society), The Outdoor Arts Foundation ( a non-profit arts foundation) and NEWH (The Hospitality Network, a non-profit business networking and scholarship organization.)
I recently overcame my life’s most difficult challenge, surviving colorectal cancer. I endured an aggressive treatment plan of chemotherapy and radiation in 2006-07. I am now cancer free, recovering, and happy to be back working full time in my field.
I am glad to begin life anew; not only surviving, but thriving, happy and grateful to be alive.
My greatest joy - I am a single mother of a talented, smart, beautiful, 15-year old daughter. My most important goal - helping her as she continues to grow into an independent adult.
